Wrong-Way LIE Driver Was High On Drugs, Suffolk Police Say

Suffolk County Police arrested a man for driving while ability impaired by drugs after he drove the wrong way on the Long Island Expressway.

Highway Patrol officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a car traveling westbound on the eastbound side of the Long Island Expressway near Exit 70 at approximately 12:15 a.m., according to Suffolk County Police.

When officers arrived they reportedly observed a 2017 Lincoln sedan traveling the wrong way and initiated a traffic stop between Exit 68 and Exit 69, said the police report.

The driver of the Lincoln, Andrew Haber, 54, of Edgewater, New Jersey, was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, second-degree reckless endangerment, and reckless driving, according to police.

He is being held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Tuesday, June 4.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
